Over 15 years down the line and Star Warz is as vibrant as ever. It's vibrations have spread out to the Outlook Festival in Croatia and Tomorrowland over the summer and are felt with all the leading Drum'n'Bass labels in the world : from Metalheadz to RAM, from Virus to Critical Music and countless others. The previous edition on October 1st was completely off the hook with serious Drum'n'Bass fans going completely down to the sounds of Dj Marky and his Innerground Records stalwarts and Klute with some of his Commercial Suicide all stars. For the next edition, Shogun Audio is back for more heavy Drum'n'Bass action. Last time they touched down in Vooruit was almost two years ago for their 10th anniversary and they can't wait to be back, bringing with them well known faces and new born stars.
Since its inception in 2004 Shogun Audio has gone on to become one of the most essential labels in dance music today. Driven by its founders Friction and K-Tee the Shogun brand has developed into an all-encompassing Drum'n'Bass juggernaut releasing some of the most breath-taking beats across the full spectrum and beyond. The ethos - if it's good music, let's get it out there ! The elite league of exclusively signed Shogun artists adheres to the highest of standards, producing the very best in hi-grade Drum'n'Bass, dubstep and bass music : Icicle, Technimatic, Fourward and many more all bring their own distinct sound ensuring the Shogun brand is ever-evolving and adapting. Behind a high-rolling label are high-rolling events. The Shogun Audio sessions at London's Cable club and Brighton's Digital have become synonymous with the best nights out in the country and across Europe. So with now over 40 Shogun events every year all over the UK and as far afield as Australia, Russia, Hungary, Croatia and Austria it's true to say the brand is well and truly worldwide. With their continued Shogun podcasts, their own shows on Ministry of Sound radio, Rinse FM and now also BBC Radio 1's Drum & Bass Show, there seems to be no stopping Shogun Audio.
We are more than happy to have them back and welcome some of their finest artists to date.
Jeroen Snik aka Icicle is recognized as one of the most technically advanced and highly-respected producers in electronic music. After commanding the attention of the masses with releases on labels such as Hospital Records and Critical Music, Icicle made the move from Holland to London in 2008 and has spent the last 8 years working with the Shogun Audio team. Following ground breaking singles including the rolling beats "Dreadnaught" and "Xylophobia" Icicle dropped his debut album "Under the Ice", in 2011 which saw him reach new heights and cement his reputation. Icicle's continued need to explore, saw him holding down a monthly Rinse FM show as well as continuing a steady flow of new releases alongside a relentless dj schedule taking in regular tours across Europe, Australia, US and beyond. It was his pivotal 2014 sophomore album "Entropy" which marked a more centered approach and smashed its way to the top of the D&B charts. With a reputation as one of the most flawless and most exceptional electronic producers of his time, there's nothing else quite like the Icicle experience.
Since joining forces in 2007 Technimatic's discography has spanned the cream of the Drum'n'Bass scene, with releases on the likes of Technique, Viper, Critical, Hospital and Spearhead. In 2012 they signed exclusively to Shogun Audio and since then they have become one of the go-to acts for rich, emotive, musical Drum'n'Bass, epitomized perfectly by their bestselling debut album "Desire Paths". This widely acclaimed long player was one of Mixmag's Top 10 dance albums of 2014 and won "Best Album" at the National Drum & Bass Awards. Both talented DJs in their own right, Pete and Andy have played throughout the world. Their energetic sets feature music from right across the Drum'n'Bass spectrum and reflect a deep passion and knowledge of the scene.
The Fourward collective formed back in 2007 bringing together a myriad of styles to take the scene by storm. Their breakthrough release came in 2009 on Dj Trace's legendary DSCI4 label while their collaboration with Body & Soul on Ed Rush & Optical's Virus Recordings took their profile to the next level. Since then Ludwig, Lukas, Dominik and Nik have travelled the globe as their renowned dj sets continue to set dance floors alight. With the success of their hit remix of the Upbeat's "Alone" on Noisia's Vision Recordings and the "Aftermath" EP on AudioPorn Records, 2013 culminated in their signing exclusively with Shogun Audio. Known for their heavy-hitting, no holds barred approach, Fourward now throw down their inimitable sound design to deliver a stunning new album "Expansion" on Shogun Audio. Featuring 11 heavy hitting tracks including collaborations with Friction, Mefjus, Jakes, Pep and René the results are staggering, from the dance floor ready "Sequencer" to the heart-wrenching "Over" through to the neck-breaking "Bite The Dust", "Expansion" puts Fourward firmly on the frontline of modern day Drum'n'Bass where they look set to stay for a long very time to come.
Prolix will be a familiar name to most hardened Drum and Bass heads, with a back catalogue that has seen releases on some of the most prolific and respected labels in the industry such as RAM, Playaz & Ganja Tek, Vision, Shogun, Blackout, Renegade Hardware, Metalheadz, Viper, Virus and more recently Owsla/mta. His unique style of production has achieved international recognition filling Prolix with the courage he needed to establish his own imprint in 2011 ; cue the birth of the mighty Trendkill Records. As his reputation grew, Prolix found himself collaborating with an array of top artists from across the genre such as Noisia, Misanthrop, and Icicle, as well as remixing the likes of Ed Rush and Optical, Black Sun Empire and Chase and Status. Prolix is well known for his high energy, floor-filling dj sets. As well as doing his own headline shows, he also shared the stage with most of the top names as Chase and Status, Subfocus and Pendulum.
Hailing from Nottingham Ed Warrener aka Ed:it made his first forays into the scene back in 2010. Since then he has become one of the finest purveyors of meaningful, soulful but gritty Drum'n'Bass. He started releasing on Critical Music, Demand Records & Flexout Audio and his inevitable progression lead to collaborations & remixes with Pennygiles, Hyroglifics, Overlook & Eastcolors. A strong line of releases followed on labels Blu Mar Ten Music, Commercial Suicide & Rooted Recordings seeing legends Total Science crafting a heavy remix from "Cargo Dub". As demand increased so did his release schedule with Hospital Records, Med School, Dispatch Recordings, Subtitles Music and C.I.A. releasing music from him. It wasn't long before the first Ed:It tunes appeared on Shogun's sister imprint SGN:Ltd and since 2015 Ed:It is a fully signed member of the Shogun Audio roster. A great dj in his own right, you can be sure you'll be hearing a lot more of Ed:It in the years to come at events across the world.
Antwerp based duo Hypoxia emerged from Belgium like a pair of dark hands reaching into the heart of the European Drum'n'Bass scene, triggering psychotic audio hallucinations with their aggressive and tech-enhanced edge. Members Athys and Syntopia individually garnered significant respect but it was through the combination of their brutal but intricate sound design skills that the true power of Hypoxia emerged. Their first single "Space Time" was released on Risky's "DnB Arena Winter Selection" compilation in 2013. Follow-up single "Badass" on Titan records, built on that strong start and was featured on Ed Rush's "Fabriclive 82" mix. Following these standout tracks, label of the moment "Eatbrain" snapped them up - releasing their first full EP "Anova" to an insatiable audience of Neurofunk fans and catapulting Hypoxia deeper into the minds of ravers globally.
One87, Star Warz resident, played over a thousand national & international dj sets, on all kinds of events, alongside most of the great names in Drum'n'Bass today. Highlights include sets at Metalheadz @ Fabric and Cable in London, Shogun Audio @ Cable in London, Outlook Festival Croatia, Dour, Pukkelpop and Tomorrowland in Belgium, USA and Brasil. Mc Mush is his MC of choice because... well... he's the best !
Tito & Echo Virus run Stealth Bombers which is one of the biggest and longest running independent Drum'n'Bass events in Belgium since 2005. That's also the year in which they did a back-to-back session for the first time and this collaboration still stands today. They are booked almost on a weekly basis all over Belgium and had several international bookings in France, Germany, Slovakia, Austria, The Netherlands... When it comes to major gigs, this duo has plenty of experience under their belt too. They've played at every big festival in Belgium and are off course residents at their own Stealth Bombers.
Being the host MC at some of the biggest stages and festivals, Mc Nice has become one of the leading voices of the bass-music scene in Belgium. With his short bars and hyper lyrics, Nice adds pure energy to the sound ! Inspired by some old school Renegade Hardware mix-tapes, he started writing lyrics around the millennium years. These days he's rippin' up stages alongside some of the biggest and best dj of the Drum'n'Bass and Dubstep scene including Allspark, Emalkay, Pendulum, Sigma, Bad Company, Distance, N-Type, Pinch, Blame, Prototypes, Drumsound & Bassline Smith, One87 and Hookerz. On Star Warz he's a welcome guest and he knows the crowd and what they want as no other.
